今回は、２級のQuestion No.1（本文に関する問い）について解説します。

２級のQuestion No.1の特徴
下の英文を20秒間で黙読した後、音読をします。

Some families want to reduce the amount of plastic they use at home. To do this, they have started buying eco-friendly products* like reusable containers. Some families shop at stores that sell these products. In this way, they help the environment and reduce waste. Such efforts are growing as more people care about nature.

２級のQuestion No.1の考え方

Questionの“how do some families help the environment and reduce waste”
→本文の“they help the environment and reduce waste.”が該当します。
Questionの“how”
→本文の“In this way”に着目します。
→“this”なので、前の文を見ます。
→“Some families shop at stores that sell these products.”
→このままだと“these products”が何なのかわかりません。
→さらに前に戻って“eco-friendly products”を見つけます。
Some families shop at stores that sell eco-friendly products.
→“Some families”は、Questionに出てきているので、“They”に置き換えます。
【Answer1】They shop at stores that sell eco-friendly products.
howで手段をきかれているので、 “By doing”で答えることもできます。
【Answer2】By shopping at stores that sell eco-friendly products.
２級のQuestion No.1の対策
①必ず本文にQuestionと同じ表現があるので、そこを見つけます。
②In this wayをヒントに直前が解答に関わると判断できます。
※by doing soやso, as a resultなどの場合もありますが、考え方は同じです。
③2級では、答えとなる部分に代名詞を含んでいるので、その内容をさらに一つ前の文から探します。
④主語の代名詞化は意外と見落としがちです。“Some families”や“Some people”が本文に出てきたら、“They”に置き換えて答えることを忘れずに！
黙読のときに、in this wayやby doing so, as a result などを見つけておきましょう！そこがQuestion 1です。
