英検®準1級では、200語程度の長文を読んで60～70語の英語でまとめる「要約問題」が出題されます。
「文章が長くて内容を整理できない……」
「どこまで書けばいいのかわからない」
「模範解答を見ながら練習したい！」
このように感じている人も多いのではないでしょうか。
準1級の要約問題は、単に英文を短くする問題ではありません。文章全体の流れを理解し、重要な情報だけを整理して書き直す力が求められます。
この記事では、準1級の問題形式を確認したあと、オリジナル例題と模範解答を使って、実践的に要約問題を練習していきましょう。

英検準1級要約問題の問題形式
準1級の要約問題では、200語程度の英文を読み、その内容を60～70語の英語でまとめます。
ポイントは次の3つです。
準1級では、具体例を並べるだけでは十分ではありません。
という流れを整理することが大切です。
要約とは、「英文を短くする作業」ではなく、「段落の役割を理解し、筆者の主張を論理的に再構成する作業」だと考えましょう。
英検準1級要約問題の頻出テーマ
準1級では、社会的・国際的なテーマがよく出題されます。
例えば、
- AIと雇用
- 少子高齢化
- 地球環境問題
- 都市化
- 格差問題
- 食料問題
- メディアと情報社会
- 科学技術と倫理
- グローバル化
などです。
背景知識がなくても解けますが、ニュース記事や英字新聞に触れておくと読みやすくなります。

Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly common in many workplaces around the world. Advances in technology have made it possible for companies to use AI to perform tasks that were once done only by humans. 英検準1級の要約では、原文の表現をそのまま並べるのではなく、意味を保ちながら簡潔な表現に言い換えることが重要です。
例えば、

のように、語数を減らしながら内容を維持する工夫ができます。
ただし、言い換えは「情報を変えること」ではありません。原文にない内容を付け加えず、類義語や名詞化を活用することを意識しましょう。

要約問題で意識したいポイント

③ 接続語を活用する

短すぎると情報不足になり、長すぎると不要な内容が入っている可能性があります。
書き終わったら、必ず語数を確認しましょう。
